I think for me this has changed over the years. Of course, I will chalk up some of my opinions up to age and we have changed how we like to travel. But something else has changed and I believe it is an awakening to the direct correlation of what is included in one’s travel experience and how much of their hard-earned dollar goes to this experience.
There has been an exponential growth in added fees, charging extra for dining experiences, increases in gratuities, and overall nickel & diming are occurring more and more. Luxury does not necessarily mean the best or most glamorous anymore. I think it means more inclusivity in the world of travel. Guests want to pay one price for their travel and experiences for a wonderful time away from home. Guests are willing to pay more for one product or service that delivers everything included, knowing the other options could be less expensive but, in the end, they will be paying more to add everything they want included in the first place.
Travelers are more aware, and attitudes are changing in what luxury means to them. In the same way that success may mean something completely different between people, so may luxury experiences.
Some may want an expedition experience with all food and drink included and their tours included. Some may want a completely inclusive experience, with first-class air, all food and beverage, excursions, or experiences included. Others may want a top villa experience, first-class air, a nice rental car, and the rest to be unplanned. And others may enjoy private touring, where everything is planned day by day and they may throw in a few free days to enjoy different areas on their own.
You may find yourself enjoying several types of luxury-inclusive travel with each journey you take. I see these changes in our clients coming into our agency for guidance and looking for something they may be having a hard time finding on their own. I look forward to helping you figure out which style works best for your next trip and guiding you to your next luxury experience!
